SHIVA LINGAM FOOD OFFERINGS ON A TRAY AND PRAYERS TO THE LINGAM
TIKTOK
Shiva Lingam food offerings on a tray and prayers to the Lingam (2 Minutes and 16 seconds)
This video covers:
How to set a food offering tray to Lord Shiva
What type of incense and flowers to offer Lord Shiva?
and camphor and clove offerings
The 5 items that are favoured by Lord Shiva
The 5 items that are forbidden in Lord Shiva worship.
*** 5 is due to the Five Life Airs (Pranas), Pancha Maha-Bhuta five great elements, 5 fingers, etc. 5 is an odd number and also feminine. It also suggests continuity, while an even number is masculine and suggests completion.
*** Why Kumkum is not Offered to Lord Shiva?
This is per the Shiva Purana.
The reason for not offering Kumkum is that Shiva represents masculinity and virility. He is Purusha. Kumkum is also a symbol of Saubhagya and marital bliss. Shiva is vairagi – one who is detached and not part of society. Kumkum, mixing kumkum in oil, and smearing kumkum are not practised during Shiva puja in many regions in India. It must be noted here that such beliefs are not part of Hinduism. It is purely regional and community-based. Not all Hindus follow such rules.
